How to join alliance voice chat
Doomsday Chat has one voice room per alliance, not one per channel. Any alliance member can join regardless of role.
Audio runs over an encrypted connection to a server owned by the site operator, and requires no third-party calling subscription.
1. Joining
Click "🎙️ Voice chat" in the sidebar. A dedicated page opens with the participant list and a control bar at the bottom.
Press the connect button. The browser asks for microphone permission at that exact moment — choose "Allow". If the permission prompt was previously blocked, the microphone will not start; see section 4.
Participants with an in-game power level are marked with crossed swords in the list.
2. You always join muted, and that is expected
The app always enters the room with your microphone off. This is deliberate: browsers only grant microphone access through an explicit user action, and hands-on-keyboard with no click from you would mean unwanted noise for everyone.
Press the microphone button to talk. It is a persistent toggle rather than push-to-talk: once enabled, the microphone stays open until you switch it back off.
The speaker button mutes everyone else at once without disconnecting you — useful when you want to drop out of the conversation but stay in the room.
3. Leaving voice
The "✕" button in the control bar really does leave the room and releases your microphone.
Important: if you simply navigate back to the chat without pressing "✕", the call continues. You stay in the room, your microphone is still live, and the only sign of it is the green dot next to "Voice chat" in the sidebar.
To mute yourself or leave properly, go back to the "🎙️ Voice chat" page. Switching tabs on its own does not end the call.
4. If the microphone does not work
An orange line under the control bar reading "Microphone unavailable. Allow microphone access (🔒 in the address bar) and plug in your input device." means the call connected but nobody can hear you.
Click the padlock icon to the left of the site address, allow microphone use for this site, then rejoin the room.
On iPhone and iPad, microphone access is granted in the operating system rather than on the page: Settings → Safari → Microphone.
On desktop, check that an input device is connected and not muted in your operating system sound settings.
5. What voice chat does not have
Video and screen sharing are not supported: camera access is disabled by the site security policy.
There are no per-channel rooms — one room covers the whole alliance.
The participant list cannot be muted or removed from; voice rooms intentionally have no moderation tools.
